Here
is Gary Gabelich, ostrich plumes in place, driving a very early
"Rail" at the legendary Lions Drag Strip at Wilmington,
CA where he is about to KISS-THE-WALL! He was not hurt in the crash.
This
is one of three watercolor paintings Tom Daniel did as part of a
series back in 1991 to honor his late friend, Gary Gabelich. Tom
knew Gary before he captured the Unlimited World Land Speed Record
of 622.407 MPH. Gary broke the record while driving the natural
gas powered Rocket Car the "BLUE FLAME" in 1970 at the
famous Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. All prints in this series
show Gary driving a variety of Dragsters during the "golden
years" (the '60s) before he broke the land speed record.
